The non-governmental organization Developing Woman for Skills and Opportunities Initiative (DWOSO) organized a sensitization program for girls’ prefects and their assistants in the Sekyere East District of the Ashanti Region on the International Day of the Girl Child. The theme of the event, held during the launch of the Ring Leaders Program, was “Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership, Our Well-being.”

During the event, Mrs. Beatrice Antwiwaa, the Gender Desk Officer and Assistant Director at the Sekyere East District Assembly, who also leads community outreach for DWOSO, advised the participants to abstain from drugs, alcohol, and negative attitudes that could adversely affect their educational prospects. She emphasized avoiding early sexual activity, which can lead to teenage pregnancy, child marriage, and child labor.

Mrs. Antwiwaa took the opportunity to encourage the girls to focus on their studies, stay vigilant, and concentrate on their academic pursuits. She stressed the importance of education in shaping responsible and successful futures.

Madam Jacqueline Sarfo, the Girl Child Coordinator for Sekyere East District, shared her views and urged parents to prioritize the education of their daughters to combat issues such as teenage pregnancy, child marriage, discrimination, and child labor among girls in the country. She emphasized the need for increased investment and support for girl child education, noting that many girls in communities face significant challenges accessing formal education despite their academic potential and suitability for various sectors.

Several beneficiaries of the program who spoke to the media expressed gratitude to DWOSO for facilitating the educational initiative. They believed that the program would significantly benefit their personal development and contribute positively to their families’ well-being.
