Lead Against Silence is a transformative initiative implemented by the Developing Women for Skills and Opportunities (DWoSO) Initiative with support from the African Women’s Development Fund (AWDF). The project seeks to prevent sexual and gender-based violence by empowering women, girls, young people, and communities to challenge harmful norms, promote consent, support survivors, and drive collective action for safer and more equitable societies.
Across Ghana, many women and girls continue to experience various forms of violence, often in silence due to stigma, fear, victim-blaming, and limited access to support systems. These realities not only affect survivors’ physical and mental well-being but also undermine their ability to participate fully in education, employment, leadership, and community life.
Lead Against Silence recognizes that ending violence requires more than responding to incidents; it requires changing attitudes, transforming systems, and empowering communities to become active agents of prevention and accountability. Through advocacy, education, community engagement, storytelling, and leadership development, the project seeks to create environments where survivors are believed, supported, and empowered, and where violence is no longer tolerated.
The project is rooted in feminist principles and adopts a survivor-centered approach that prioritizes dignity, agency, inclusion, and justice.
