SustainHER is a transformative project that aims to empower young Ghanaian women in business by equipping them with the necessary tools, resources, and knowledge to succeed. Recognizing the unique challenges that women-owned businesses face in Ghana, particularly related to access to education, resources, and technology, SustainHER takes a comprehensive approach to address these barriers. Through training, visibility initiatives, and technology solutions, the project seeks to create a supportive environment where women-led small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) can thrive and contribute to the economic growth of Ghana.
One of the primary objectives of SustainHER is to determine the specific challenges that young women entrepreneurs face in running their businesses. This involves conducting thorough research and engaging with women-led SMEs to identify the barriers they encounter. Some common challenges include limited access to financial resources, lack of business knowledge and skills, limited visibility and market opportunities, and inadequate access to technology and digital platforms. By understanding these challenges, SustainHER can design targeted interventions to address them effectively.
To increase the visibility of women-owned businesses and provide them with the necessary education, SustainHER offers training programs that focus on various aspects of entrepreneurship. These programs cover topics such as business management, financial literacy, marketing strategies, and access to markets. By equipping women with the knowledge and skills needed to run successful businesses, SustainHER aims to enhance their visibility in the business ecosystem, opening doors to new opportunities and partnerships.
SustainHER recognizes the power of media in shaping public opinion and generating awareness about women-led businesses. The project actively collaborates with media outlets to promote the achievements and stories of young women entrepreneurs. Through media campaigns, interviews, and features, SustainHER aims to challenge stereotypes, highlight success stories, and inspire other women to pursue entrepreneurship. By increasing the visibility of women-led SMEs in the media, the project aims to create a supportive ecosystem that recognizes and celebrates their contributions to the economy.
Access to technology and digital platforms is crucial for the growth and sustainability of businesses in today’s digital age. SustainHER addresses this need by providing technology solutions and training to women-led SMEs. This includes support in setting up online platforms, e-commerce websites, and digital marketing strategies. By embracing technology, women entrepreneurs can expand their customer base, reach new markets, and improve operational efficiency. SustainHER also offers training programs on digital literacy, empowering women to leverage technology effectively in their businesses.
Running a business can be challenging, particularly for young women entrepreneurs. SustainHER recognizes the importance of providing support and resources to help women overcome these challenges. The project establishes networks and partnerships with business support organizations, financial institutions, and mentorship programs to provide women entrepreneurs with access to finance, business advisory services, mentorship opportunities, and networking events. By creating a supportive ecosystem, SustainHER aims to empower women with the necessary resources and support systems to overcome barriers and succeed in their entrepreneurial journey.
Geographical Focus and Target Participants: SustainHER targets women-led SMEs that have been in business for a duration of 6 months to 2 years. The project focuses on entrepreneurs within the age group of 18 to 35 years and operates in the Central, Ashanti, Western, Western North, and Greater Accra regions of Ghana. By concentrating its efforts on these regions, SustainHER aims to have a localized impact and foster economic growth at the community level. Through tailored interventions and targeted support, the project seeks to create sustainable economic opportunities for young women in these regions.
